The Stern mosaic fountain is a particularly good example of the high level of craftsmanship involved in mosaic laying: the individual elements are cut at an acute angle from the tiles so that they can be laid as close together as possible. Although the casting mortar gets between the pieces and holds them together, almost none of it is visible on the front. The pattern repeats one of the most important motifs in Islam: the octort, a star made up of two overlapping squares, also known as an eight-pointed star.
The double arch made of single-color zellige tiles and mosaic squares placed on their corners creates the impression of a magnificent mosaic window. You can almost feel the light streaming towards you. The slender, upward-striving shape of the fountain is a natural result of this. The shiny brass water spout is surrounded by a stylized flower.
The metal tone further emphasizes the elegance of this two-tone fountain: with white and terracotta, it is made for a lovely rose garden. Imagine a white pergola or a romantically designed pavilion to go with it . A terrace floor made of light wood or terrazzo, with white, cream, or beige tiles, gives the mosaic fountain the graceful setting it deserves.
The Stern mosaic fountain works with an electric pump that circulates the water. Practical casters make it easy to move to the desired location. Fountains of this shape look particularly authentic in front of a wall, as is the case with most terraces. A hedge or a high fence also provides a suitable backdrop.
