A diamond-shaped border is typical of a Moroccan mosaic table. In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune. Mosaic artists place a wide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: the glazed mosaic pieces are first cut from the handcraftedzellige tilesusing a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop is purely handmade and therefore absolutely unique.
Depending on the incidence of light, white zellije tileslook like precious mother-of-pearl. This is especially true when they are surrounded by unglazed, light beige cotto tiles, as is the case with thismosaic table. White garden furnituregoes particularly well witha romantic interior design stylefeaturing delicate wrought-iron vines, gazebos, and rose trellises.
