A diamond-shaped border is typical ofa Moroccan mosaic table.In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune. Mosaic artists place awide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: theglazed mosaic piecesare first cut from thehandcrafted zellige tilesusing a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop ispurely handmadeand therefore absolutely unique.
OntheAnkabut Greenmosaic table, the joints between theindividual mosaic piecesare clearly visible. This is entirely intentional, as the craftsmen had the artistically woven web of a spider (Ankabut) in mind when designing it. Alternatively, the design is reminiscent of fireworks or a flower bed, as loved by flower enthusiasts. The mosaic layer has chosen subtle shades of green, blue, and red for the colors. The black contours give the bright flowers a sense of plasticity.
