A diamond-shaped border is typical of aMoroccan mosaic table. In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune.Mosaic artistsplace awide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: theglazed mosaic piecesare first cut from thehandcrafted zellige tilesusing a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop ispurely handmadeand therefore absolutely unique.
Onthe Ankabut Brown dining table, the joints between the individualmosaic piecesare clearly visible. This is entirely intentional, as the craftsmen had the artistically woven web of a spider (Ankabut) in mind when designing it. Alternatively, the design is reminiscent of fireworks or a flower bed, as loved by flower enthusiasts. Themosaic layerhas chosen subtle shades of blue and ochre for the colors.
