A diamond-shaped border is typical of a Moroccan mosaic table. In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune. Mosaic artists place a wide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: the glazed mosaic pieces are first cut from the handcrafted zellige tiles using a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop is purely handmade and therefore absolutely unique.
On the Ankabut bistro table, the joints between the individual mosaic pieces are clearly visible. This is entirely intentional, as the craftsmen had the artistically woven web of a spider (Ankabut) in mind when designing it. Alternatively, the design is reminiscent of fireworks unfolding magnificently in the sky. This mosaic table features three very different shades of green: emerald green, light green, and turquoise. Depending on your mood, you can dream of shady forests, lush green meadows, or oceans near the equator.
