A diamond-shaped border is typical of a Moroccan mosaic table. In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune. Mosaic artists place a wide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: the glazed mosaic pieces are first cut from the handcrafted zellige tiles using a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop is purely handmade and therefore absolutely unique.
Depending on the incidence of light, white Zellije tiles look like precious mother-of-pearl. This is especially true when they are surrounded by unglazed, light beige cotto tiles, as is the case with this mosaic table. White garden furniture goes particularly well with a romantic interior design style featuring delicate wrought iron vines, gazebos, and rose trellises.
