A diamond-shaped border is typical of a Moroccan mosaic table. In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune. Mosaic artists place a wide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: the glazed mosaic pieces are first cut from the handcrafted zellige tiles using a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop is purely handmade and therefore absolutely unique.
This mosaic shows that a traditionally crafted mosaic dining table does not have to be colorful. The colors black and white shine with one big advantage: they always match. This glazed mosaic table is most effective in a modern setting – such as a loft, a balcony with lots of stainless steel, or a terrace covered with granite or natural stone. Or choose it as a calming contrast to red and other strong colors. However, the ornamentation is anything but subtle: held in check by the diamond-shaped border, numerous bands, pentagons, and stars cavort inside.
