The mosaic border around the edge is further emphasized by the ornate wrought-ironvine ornamentation that is typical of every mosaic coffee table. Considering the symbolism of shapes and colors in Islam, a valuable mosque floor could be considered a model for this mosaic table: green is the color of religion, white that of purity. The rhombuses standing on their tips symbolize eyes that protect against the "evil eye." At each intersection, a green eight-pointed star represents the seal of the Prophet. The mosaic pieces (tesserae) are carved from glazed zellije tiles and laid with virtually no joints. A true masterpiece!
