A diamond-shaped border is typical of a Moroccan mosaic table. In addition to its decorative function, it also has a symbolic meaning: as stylized eyes (witch's eyes), square diamonds are said to protect people from all kinds of misfortune. Mosaic artists place a wide variety of patterns and ornaments within this frame. However, one thing always remains the same: the glazed mosaic pieces are first cut from the handcrafted zellige tiles using a sharp-edged hammer. Each tabletop is purely handmade and therefore absolutely unique.
Placing such a large ornament so perfectly requires a great deal of craftsmanship. Just as the star seems to shine, the mosaic layer has also worked it out: from the inside out. The addition of open-pored clay tiles to the zellige tiles brings calm to the 5-color pattern and highlights the central star even more intensely. This extraordinary mosaic table is an absolute eye-catcher. Give it enough space where it can also be shown off as a pure decorative object.
