Moroccan Zellige | Zelliges | Zellij tiles in turquoise
Sometimes they shimmer like mother-of-pearl, sometimes like silk. We are talking about Zellige tiles, also spelled Zelliges, Zellije, or Zillije. Morocco is famous for producing these gems among wall tiles. Hardly anyone is unfamiliar with the enchanting Zellige mosaics, which are composed of countless elements. They impress with their bright colors and an almost endless variety of patterns.
Genuine Zellige tiles are made entirely by hand. From shaping the blanks to dyeing and glazing to double firing – everything is done exactly as it has been for centuries. And that is precisely why they are so sought after. Not only the typical irregularities, but also the different nuances of each color contribute to the beauty of these Moroccan tiles.
These unique Zellige tiles are available in numerous colors. Navy blue, light blue, and light turquoise tiles evoke memories of the sea and are therefore particularly popular for wall coverings in bathrooms. Green tones such as dark green, light green, and olive green harmonize particularly well with real wood furnishings, often in combination with brass. Black, burgundy, and pink tiles look elegant and extravagant. The fittings should be chrome-plated or made of stainless steel. Natural tones such as brown, beige, and white are more subtle and can be combined perfectly with shiny or colored accessories. Light-dark collages such as burgundy and pink, navy blue and white, or dark green and light turquoise are also attractive.
